Bea Mariano

portrait photo

Bea Mariano (she/they) is an artist, experimental filmmaker and writer based in Metro Manila, Philippines. Currently, she is trying out — slowly, gently, mindfully and out of necessity — automatic and expressionistic approaches to art-making. Occasionally, she transcribes for film projects and translates for a human rights organization. She codes web and mobile apps as a day job.

Her community-engaged work started with volunteering for Back to Square 1’s Off-Site/Out of Sight exhibit (2015) and from early 2017 continues with RESBAK.

She was also a fellow for poetry in Filipino at the Ateneo National Writers Workshop in 2016 and a digital fellow of the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum’s Leaky Archive project in 2022, engaging with the institution’s Philippine colonial photographs collection. She received her BA in Art Studies from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
